Whatever, man, those guys were in love, and that’s cool. I’m determined to have the world’s gay community embrace Megalon as one of the major milestones in the fight for acceptance.
Some years ago, I got email in response to my review from the granddaughter of Robert “Wake up, Megalon!” Dunham. Apparently, that man had the libido of a stallion annd satisfied his primal urges on a legions of adoring, willing Japanese women. Go figure. It must have been the Seatopia toga.

I was gonna go back to Clash of the Titans and post this, but since you mentioned it in this podcast, it’s fair game. I’ve been watching a lot of 80s scifi films recently, and I am surprised to recall just how much stop motion animation there still was. So Clash wasn’t all that out of date. Robocop 2, Screamers, Terminator — all relied very heavily on stop motion animation.
And I’m glad you guys like Megalon. This and Gigan were hands down two of my favorite films of all time when I was a kid. Now that I’m an adult — hey! They’re still two of my favorites!

I think I need to clarify my ambivalence regarding Clash of the Titans. It’s not the stop-motion animation that chafes me; I love stop-motion animation. What bothers me about Clash is the stop-motion animation looks exactly like the stuff Harryhausen was producing throughout the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Rather than being the punctuation mark on a brilliant career, Clash strikes me as a failure to evolve and take advantage of the opportunities that advances in film technology provided. It’s a film that looks dated, but dated two decades too early. I can’t watch it without thinking: “Shouldn’t this have been better?”

Hey Paul, what’s up with the editing on this podcast? It’s like “Hi I’m aul Chapm and we’re talking about alon Versus and I’m Mike Dent from 5Central!” Did something happen here? This doesn’t sound nearly as good as every other podcast you’ve ever done. Also Jet Jaguar < Mechagodzilla.

The editing sounds so choppy because my stupid recording program messed up while I was recording, but I didn’t discover this until afterwards. I tried my best to salvage it, but my dialog is still kind of a mess. Hence, the Max Headroom effect.
Trust me, it sounds a million times better than what it sounded like before I did any editing.

When I was a kid, I made a stop motion Batman movie using a VHS camcorder with no actual stop motion/single frame function (press the record button…quick! Press stop!) and my sister’s Ken doll wrapped in a cut-up trash bag. He fought a plastic hot dog with a tophat and monocle. It was a work of art.
I think what sets CLASH apart from other 80s/90s stop-motion fx is that they were used sparingly in other movies, and to excess in CLASH.
I love the rare moments when Godzilla becomes stop motion, or in the older films where his action is sometimes not slowed down, so all of a sudden, it’s like Mothra and G are in a Benny Hill skit. An awesome Benny Hill skit!

I mentioned this in the forum, but I must reiterate. Godzilla’s flying drop kick is the mother effing bomb. He could probably take out the Flying Guillotine with that awesome move.

Can you get a wordpress flash plugin so you can have your podcast streamed on-page? I have friends I’d like to have listen, but they can’t do the itunes thing.

I don’t know about the flash plug-in, but I put two links to the show in each post. If you click on the movie poster or the title of the movie, it should open up the episode automatically using your operating system’s default MP3 program. You can do the same thing with older episodes from the Archives page. I’ll look into the flash player thing in the mean time.
